My area of interest is second language acquisition, especially the acquisition of second language sounds by adult learners. I am interested in investigating the interlanguage phonology of Portuguese Brazilian speakers of English, and the acquisition of Portuguese as a second language by speakers of other languages. My interest encompasses the study of interphonology from both a theoretical point of view and its application in second language classroom.

I am also interested in the teaching and learning of a second language (both English and Portuguese) from a more interdiscipliary perspective, exploring, for example, how other areas of knowledge can contribute to the learning process.

I taught English in Brazil to children and adults. In New York, I taught ESL students at Teachers College Columbia University through the Community English Program. I also taught Portuguese as a foreign language in New York for more than five years.

I am a  Ph.D. candidate in the
Second Language Acqusition and Teaching program (SLAT) at the University of Arizona. I am also a Graduate Associate in Teaching (GAT) in the Portuguese program at UofA, where I teach Portuguese as a second language.
